Bathrooms are known for being smelly but more often than not, there’s a reason for the smell. Once you have debunked what the smell is coming from, you may learn there is something wrong with your bathroom plumbing. We have laid out some of the common questions about bathroom smells and what they can mean.
What causes a sewer smell in the bathroom?
Whether they are broken, clogged or poorly installed, your vent pipes may be the issue if your bathroom is smelling like a sewer. When there is a backup, sewer gasses may come through the sink or toilet with a resulting smell. To solve this problem, check the vent for any blockages and remove them or call in a plumber from Watters Plumbing.
Why does my bathroom smell like rotten eggs?
The smell of rotten eggs could mean one of two things, there is the presence of sewer gasses or there is something wrong with your well water. The former explanation can be due to the plumbing line not functioning properly from a clog in the drains, within the toilet or the septic tank.
If it isn’t your plumbing line, then you may have issues with your well water. First, you need to find the source as it may only happen with either your hot or cold water. If it’s hot water, there could be something wrong with the water heater. If it’s cold water, there could be a problem with the water chemistry. Either way, call Watters Plumbing so we can locate and eliminate the source of the problem!
What is the musty smell in my bathroom?
A musty smell in the bathroom is caused by mold or mildew which is from the same fungal growths in damp basements. When a bathroom isn’t properly ventilated, this type of growth thrives. Common areas for fungal growth include inside the shower, on walls behind towels or picture frames or on the ceiling. They are usually dark in color and grow in feathery-looking patches.
